
David Jenkin spent the first twenty five years of his working life with the Myer Emporium Ltd., rising from departmental manager/buyer in the Melbourne City Store to Managing Director of the Myer group in N.S.W. Following his return to Melbourne he became one of the youngest Board members of the parent company and Regional Managing Director of Myer Stores Australia.
David founded his own company, Baraka Holdings Pty. Ltd. trading as D.H. Jenkin and Associates, in 1983 and was commissioned to undertake the retail planning for the A$1billion Melbourne Central project. Later he was appointed General Manager of the Company.
In addition he was appointed Chair or Board Member of 6 National Retail companies.
As one of the initial Board Members of The Docklands Authority, David was re-appointed by successive Victorian Governments (1992 - 2003). During his Chairmanship of the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (1995 - 2002), the organization rose from 17th to 2nd place in the world for attracting international conventions.
David currently Chairs the Advisory Board of a young and dynamic Melbourne based company.
In addition to his commercial activities David was Chairman of World Vision Australia (1985 - 1994), and was the first non-American to Chair the Board of World Vision International (based in the U.S.A) 1992 - 1998. He is currently Chair of the Corporate Advisory Group for World Vision Australia.
David is the Author of the Best Selling Business Book – “What Great Retailers Do – 50 Keys to make your store a winner”. David has been a plenary speaker at Conferences in Australia and Overseas, covering topics of Leadership, Vision, Strategy and Retail Excellence.
He was made a Member of Australia (A.M.) by the Federal Government in 1998, and honoured as a Distinguished Citizen of Melbourne in 1999.
