The Aussie of the Month program is a primary school recognition program that aims to acknowledge personal endeavour, achievement and contributions to the community. The Aussie of the Month program aims to reflect some of the values we share as Australians, such as fair go, mateship, respect and inclusion.
Aussie of the Month reflects similar values, and aims to encourage an appreciation of the diversity and depth of personal contribution and achievements possible within your school, and bring about increased concern and consideration for all members of the school community.
Aussie of the Month in Victoria
To receive an award students don’t have to win any races, or sit any exams. The award is designed to encourage children to be proud of themselves, their school and to understand the responsibilities and rewards of community participation. Each month a child is chosen as the school’s Aussie of the Month and is presented with a badge and a certificate.
Many schools have successfully integrated Aussie of the Month into their civics and citizenship curriculum by using the program to generate discussion about participation and involvement inside and outside the school community.
Several thousand awards are presented to students each month at schools all around Australia. About 300 Victorian primary schools are currently participating in the program.
